TWO of Great Britain's top track cyclists will be bidding for glory when the World Championships come to England later this month.
The 2008 UCI Track Cycling World Championships begin at the Manchester Velodrome on March 26, with Ross Edgar and Victoria Pendleton both expected to impress in front of a home crowd.
While selection for team GB is not yet guaranteed, Ousden-based Edgar, who is a life member of the West Suffolk Wheelers, did his chances no harm after a fine performance at the Revolution Track meeting in Manchester.
With Jamie Staff, the 25-year-old clocked the fastest of three pairings in the team sprint trials. He was the fastest Man Two and this is expected to be enough to see him secure a spot among what will be a three-man team.
To prove his form, Edgar also won the Invitation Sprint by fighting back to beat Staff on the line.
If selected, Edgar will aim to build on last year's Palma World Championship medal haul, when he obtained a team sprint silver and bronze in the Kierin.
Meanwhile, triple world champion Pendleton, 27, will be racing on four fronts after adding the 500m time-trial to her busy schedule.
The Mildenhall Cycling Club second-claim rider will also defend her three world titles - the women's sprint, team sprint and Kierin.
